Points of Prayer

  • Pray the capitol Tunis, the center of economy, employment, entertainment and spiritual realities.

  • Pray for those in positions of power to use their influence for the good of the people and for the freedom of the Gospel.

  • Pray for the decrease of unemployment, economic oppression and against the lack of hope that permeates much of rural Tunisia.

  • Pray against the stronghold of folk Islam, which oppresses on believers.

  • Pray for Believers in remote communities and that leaders and disciple-makers would rise up to help develop the Church.

  • Pray that people would be drawn to read Bibles handed out and that the Holy Spirit would lead them to have no fear and see Jesus the Son of God in its pages.

  • Pray for the continued action of renewing wells that provide a supply of clean water to number of families.

Arab-Berber 98%, European 1%, Jewish and other 1%

Although almost all Tunisians are Berber in origin (not Arab), only a minority identify themselves as primarily Berber, about 15% of the total population; the Berbers are also Muslim but identify as culturally Berber rather than culturally Arab; Berbers have long agitated, sometimes violently, for autonomy; the government is unlikely to grant autonomy but has officially recognized Berber languages and introduced them into public schools.

Languages

Derja Arabic (official, one of the languages of commerce), French (commerce), Berber (Tamazight); note - despite having no official status, French plays a major role in the country and is spoken by about two thirds of the population

Religions

Muslim (official; Sunni) 99%, other (includes Christian, Jewish, Shia Muslim, and Baha'i) <1%.

Northern Africa, bordering the Mediterranean Sea, between Algeria and Libya.
